- An original member of the upbeat, pop punk band Yellowcard, Longineu has been drumming his whole life. He got his early start on drums from his father, Longineu Parsons II, a jazz trumpet player. Throughout his long career as a musician, Longineu the elder has played with legendary artists such as band leader Sun Ra, saxophonist Archie Shepp, Sam Rivers, and pianist Cecil Taylor. It was this early musical influence that led Longineu, the younger, to the drums.
In his early days, he was not only influenced greatly by the legendary jazz drummer, Max Roach, but Longineu would also gain firsthand knowledge from him. A friend of the family, Max became Longineu’s mentor and greatest inspiration as a young drummer. Still in his early years, Longineu developed quickly as a drummer, even becoming skilled enough to play with his father at a jazz festival when he was just six years old. Throughout childhood and adolescence, he continued to play shows and develop as a drummer.
While his roots are certainly founded in jazz, Longineu eventually shifted towards rock, punk, and metal. At 16 he joined the band that eventually became Yellowcard and begin his career as professional drummer. They formed in Jacksonville, Florida in the mid-90’s and released their first album, Midget Tossing., in 1997. In the first years the band went through several changes, eventually settling on the energetic, up-tempo sound they continue to produce today. After releasing their second album, Where We Stand, in 1999, Yellowcard’s popularity continued to grow and paved the way for their most popular work to date, Ocean Avenue.
That album was released in 2003 after the group was signed by Capital Records. The band not only received tons of radio and television airtime for the singles, “Way Away” and “Ocean Avenue”, but they also went on to headline the 2004 Warped Tour. After the initial success of Ocean Avenue, Yellowcard released Lights and Sounds in 2006 and Paper Walls in 2007. They toured extensively during these years, performing as openers for headlining bands Linkin Park and Blue October. In April 2008, Yellowcard announced that they are going on an indefinite hiatus, taking time off for various personal reasons. Longineu is currently playing for Bound, a rock band out of Jacksonville, Fl.
